2023 GYLD China Tour in Nanjing

5月12日至14日,2023年“国际青年中国行”来到江苏省南京市,来自14个国家的约20名国际青年走进“六朝古都”,感知富有开放活力、生态魅力的现代化城市图景。

From May 12-14, 2023, GYLD China Tour came to the city of Nanjing in Jiangsu Province with approximately 20 international young professionals from 14 countries experiencing this ancient capital of six dynasties as well as a modern urban landscape rich in openness, vitality, and ecological awareness.

百舸争流,奋楫者先。活力南京向国际青年充分展示着来自创新之都的“南京力量”。中国科学院南京地质古生物研究所内,一场别开生面的互动引燃现场气氛,在化石材料扫描图的竞猜中,国际青年了解了利用显微CT技术开展地质和古生物研究的创新实践。在上汽大通南京工厂,国际青年体验新能源电车“智能网联座舱”,深切感知“南京智造”的魅力。

"The strong lead where competition is fierce" and the vitality of this city fully demonstrated the idea of"Nanjing Power" for GYLD members. At the Nanjing Institute of Geology and Palaeontology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, a unique interactive session inspired minds with fossil guessing games that used hi-tech scans helping GYLD members learn about innovative practices in geological and paleontological research using micro-CT technology. At the SAIC Maxus factory in Nanjing, GYLD members also experienced a"intelligent networked cockpit" to be used in new energy vehicles that embodied"Nanjing Smart Manufacturing."

“中国正将先进科技应用到古生物研究领域,这让人感到振奋”,来自黎巴嫩的丹尼·阿扎尔(Dany Azar)教授表示,“我深感这个国家有无限可能。”

"China is applying advanced technology in paleontological research, which is exhilarating," said Professor Dany Azar from Lebanon,"I feel this country has endless possibilities."

居者安、近者悦、远者来,南京近年来11次当选“中国最具幸福感城市”。小西湖历史风貌区“看得见发展,留得住乡愁”,展现着原居民与新业态共生共荣的“老城”魅力。国际青年与当地居民热烈交谈,了解共生共享院改造对民生的改善;在南京桥丰农业,他们亲手采摘新鲜果蔬,品味幸福的劳动果实。

As a comfortable city with good relations with its neighbors and a draw for visitors,Nanjing was selected as'China's Happiest City' 11 times in recent years. The historic Little West Lake district, where'development is visible and nostalgia is preserved,' showcases the charm of the'old city' where original residents and new industries coexist and prosper together. GYLD members had enthusiastic conversations with local residents, understanding how the communal courtyard renovation is improving people's lives, while during a visit to Nanjing Qiaofeng Agriculture, they handpicked fresh fruits and vegetables, tasting the fruitful rewards of happiness.

“小西湖改造并不是简单的拆除,而是用新技术、新材料进行传统居民区修复,这既是现代化的又是传统的。所以新的中国现代化,应该是具有中国特色的现代化。”来自克罗地亚的莫帕(Pavle Mocilac)教授感慨道。"The renovation of West Lake is not just about demolition but involves the restoration of traditional residential areas using new technologies and materials. This is both modern and traditional. Therefore, new Chinese modernization should be seen as modernization with Chinese characteristics," Professor Pavle Mocilac from Croatia remarked.

野生动物保育员体验是国际青年从出发前就一直期待的活动,他们为野猪维护笼舍环境、准备食物,感受红山森林动物园将动物福利和物种保护放在首位的工作目标,了解尊重动物、保护自然环境的核心理念;在与“世界最美的书”获奖者朱嬴椿对话中,他们被“虫”归自然的跨生命哲学认知深深吸引;他们还与南京江豚水生生物保护协会的科普讲师交谈,感知南京描绘的人与自然和谐共生生态画卷。

GYLD members had been looking forward to the wildlife conservation experience since before departure. They repaired enclosures and prepared food for wild boars, learning about how the Hongshan Forest Zoo prioritizes animal welfare and species conservation, as well as their core principles of respect for animals and protecting natural habitats. In a conversation with Zhu Yingchun, winner of"The World's Most Beautiful Book," they were deeply attracted by the philosophy of returning to nature through insects. They also spoke with science educators from the Nanjing River Dolphin Conservation Association, learning more about how Nanjing envisions a harmonious coexistence between humans and nature.

“红山森林动物园真是太有人情味了。南京对自然环境和动物都有很好的保护,让我们学会以友好的方式与自然相处,共同守护地球家园。”白俄罗斯全国汉语比赛总冠军苏小小(Ekaterina Kaligaeva)说到。

"The Hongshan Forest Zoo is humane. Nanjing has done a great job in protecting the natural environment and animals, teaching us to interact with nature in a friendly way and protect our home, the Earth, together," said Ekaterina Kaligaeva (Su Xiaoxiao), champion of the National Chinese Competition in Belarus.

古之金陵,今之南京。南京还以其底蕴深厚的古都神韵向国际青年展现有文化厚度的魅力南京图景。美食、美景氤氲出飘逸雅致的人间烟火,秦淮灯彩、南京绒花等彰显古蕴的历史温度。国际青年积极参与“最南京”短视频打卡,寻找南京文化标识;在南京“世界文学客厅”的沙龙对话中,国际青年与南京当地文化专家、作家、青年代表等,以图片故事的形式交流分享自己眼中的“南京印象”。

From the ancient capital of Jinling to modern Nanjing, the city also attracted GYLD members with its cultural depth and ancient grace. The elegance of human life is embodied in the city’s delicious food and beautiful scenery, while the Qinhuai lanterns and Nanjing velvet flowers exude historical charm and ancient skill. GYLD members actively participated in the"Most Nanjing" video challenge that required them to search for cultural symbols of Nanjing. During discussions at Nanjing's"World Literature Living Room," GYLD members shared their own"Impressions of Nanjing" with local cultural experts, writers, and youth representatives with illustrated stories. 

《中国报道》编辑、来自巴西的拉斐尔(Rafael Henrique Zerbetto)表示,中国城市正在现代化建设中实现快速发展,他愿向世界讲述中国故事,为中国和其他国家交流、增进彼此理解搭建桥梁。

Rafael Henrique Zerbetto, an editor for China Report from Brazil, noted that Chinese cities are seeing rapid development in the process of modernization and he is eager to tell China's story to the world and build bridges for exchange and enhanced mutual understanding between China and other countries.

“国际青年中国行”是“国际青年领袖对话”项目框架下开展的机制化交流活动,旨在通过邀请国际青年到中国各地走访,深化对华了解,增进彼此友谊,促进共同成长。

The GYLD China Tour is a regular exchange program that aims to deepen global young professionals’ understanding of China, enhance mutual friendship and promote common growth by visiting different places in China.
